Explore the breathtaking highlands of Jabal Akhdar, one of Oman’s most scenic and culturally rich mountain regions. Our Jabal Akhdar Hiking Tours offer carefully curated experiences suitable for different fitness levels—from relaxed village walks to more demanding mountain hikes—set against the dramatic backdrop of the Saiq Plateau, located at around 2,000 metres above sea level.
Often referred to as the Green Mountain, Jabal Akhdar is not a single peak but a vast mountain plateau dotted with traditional villages, terraced farms, and ancient irrigation systems. Most tours begin with a pickup from Birkat Al Mouz and a scenic drive up to Saiq Plateau, where the hiking experience begins.
The Jabal Akhdar Village Walk is ideal for beginners, families, and travelers seeking a gentle yet enriching introduction to Oman’s mountain villages and landscapes. This leisurely hike takes you along well-used mountain trails, through charming villages, and across stone stairways carved into the mountainside.
Along the way, guests encounter traditional Aflaj irrigation systems, recognized as part of UNESCO World Heritage cultural practices, offering insight into centuries-old water management techniques still in use today. The walk provides excellent opportunities to understand village life, local history, and the natural flora and fauna unique to the Jabal Akhdar region.
A scenic picnic lunch stop is arranged at a beautiful viewpoint. After lunch, the tour continues by vehicle to Wadi Bani Habib, where the second leg of the village walk unfolds among abandoned mountain settlements, showcasing ancient architecture and traditional construction styles.

Designed for active travelers, the Village Hiking Tour at Jabal Akhdar offers a more physically demanding and adventurous route through the mountain landscape. This hike includes steep ascents, narrow trails, and rugged terrain, making it ideal for fit and confident hikers.
The trail winds through several mountain villages, providing close interaction with local heritage and architecture. En route, hikers encounter a natural mountain spring, creating a lush green pocket alive with birds and small wildlife. From here, the hike continues uphill to a summit plateau, a wide open area offering 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
After a well-earned lunch break at the summit, the descent begins along an unmarked but scenic downhill route, passing through another green wadi before reaching the endpoint, where a driver awaits for the return transfer.
