Discover the cultural soul of Oman on the Heritage Hiking Tour, an immersive and beginner-friendly walking experience through the foothills of Al Hamra. Blending gentle trails, living heritage, and mountain scenery, this tour is ideal for travelers seeking an authentic introduction to Oman’s history, villages, and landscapes.
The hike follows easy paths and small trails, making it suitable for beginners while still offering rewarding scenery. The journey begins with a visit to a lush green oasis, a tranquil palm-filled refuge where tall date palms sway gently in the mountain breeze.
The next stop is a local heritage museum, where guests gain insight into the history, architecture, and traditions of Al Hamra. From here, the hike continues along a well-demarcated trail leading to the picturesque mountain village of Misfat Al Abriyeen, beautifully hidden along the hillside.
Although parts of the trail are moderately steep, the ascent is well worth it. Sitting at nearly 1,000 metres above sea level, Misfat Al Abriyeen rewards hikers with spectacular valley views, traditional stone houses clinging to the mountainside, and serene terraced plantations.
Guests can wander through narrow alleys, explore stepped agricultural terraces, and observe the ancient Falaj irrigation system, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage–listed tradition. The experience concludes with a traditional Omani lunch, served on the terrace of a local house overlooking the valley.
After lunch, the driver collects guests from the village and transfers them back to Al Hamra, marking the end of the Heritage Hiking Tour.
